Scheduling Aircraft Landings - The Static Case
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this paper we consider the problem of scheduling aircraft (plane) landings at an airport. This problem is one of deciding a landing time for each plane such that each plane lands within a predetermined time window and separation criteria between the landing of a plane, and the landing of all successive planes, are respected. We present a mixed-integer zero-one formulation of the problem for the single runway case and extend it to the multiple runway case. We strengthen the linear programming relaxations of these formulations by introducing additional constraints. Throughout we discuss how our formulations can be used to model a number of issues (choice of objective function, precedence restrictions, restricting the number of landings in a given time period, runway workload balancing) commonly encountered in practice. The problem is solved optimally using linear programming based tree search. We also present an effective heuristic algorithm for the problem. Computational results for both the heuristic and the optimal algorithm are presented for a number of test problems involving up to 50 planes and four runways.

Scheduling Aircraft Landings at LSS Airport
This paper presents a short contribution in air transportation, specifically in scheduling aircraft (plane) landings at Léopol Sédar Senghor (LSS) airport of Dakar. The safety of air navigation of LSS is managed by ASECNA: Agency for Air Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar. Scheduling aircraft landing is the problem of deciding a landing time on an appropriate runway for each aircraft in...
متن کاملMULTI-OBJECTIVE MATHEMATICAL MODELING OF AIRCRAFT LANDING PROBLEM ON A RUNWAY IN STATIC MODE, SCHEDULING AND SEQUENCE DETERMINATION USING NSGA-II
Runway length is usually a critical point in an airport system so, a great interest has been created for optimal use of this runway length. The most important factors in modeling of aircraft landing problem are time and cost while, the costs imposed on the system because of moving away from target times have different performances in terms of impact. In this paper, firstly, aircraft landing pro...
متن کاملScheduling aircraft landings at London Heathrow using a population heuristic
With increasing levels of air traffic making effective use of limited airport capacity is obviously important. This paper reports on an investigation undertaken by National Air Traffic Services in the UK into improving runway utilisation at London Heathrow. This investigation centred on developing an algorithm for improving the scheduling of aircraft waiting to land. The heuristic algorithm dev...
متن کاملScheduling Aircraft Landings under Constrained Position Shifting
Optimal scheduling of airport runway operations can play an important role in improving the safety and efficiency of the National Airspace System (NAS). Methods that compute the optimal landing sequence and landing times of aircraft, while delivering high quality solutions, must accommodate practical issues that affect the implementation of the schedule. One such practical consideration, known ...
متن کاملA Statistical Analysis of the Aircraft Landing Process
Managing operations of the aircraft approach process and analyzing runway landing capacity, utilization and related risks require detailed insight into the stochastic characteristics of the process. These characteristics can be represented by probability distributions. The focus of this study is analyzing landings on a runway operating independent of other runways making it as a single runway. ...
